Fixed Dental Implants Rehabilitation

Restorative reconstructions performed on dental implants show high success and survival rates.  Numerous studies document  that reconstruction by single unit crowns or fixed partial bridges supported by dental implants is a predictable tool to rehabilitate partially edentulous patients.  A low failure rate of approximately 3% for implant supported bridges has been found over a period of 3 years.  Factors contributing to implant loss and biologic complications are discussed in the literature.  Some patient-related factors factors such as smoking, diabetes mellitus, oral hygiene standards, compliance to supportive periodontal treatment, genetics, and bacterial load could be detected as risk factors advancing the development of peri-implantitis and implant loss.

Straumann Implants

As a specialist in periodontics and dental implants, I only surgically place Straumann dental implants due to success rates and Straumann’s commitment to continued quality research.  A study conducted by Daniel Buser in Clinical Implant Dentistry analyzed the 10-year survival and success rates of 511 titanium implants.  The study concluded that Straumann dental implants have a success rate of 97% after at least 10 years of function.  Also, the study mentioned that the positive longterm outcomes may have benefited from the fact that the dental implants were placed by a experienced dental specialist.

Case Presentation

The current case presented is a long time patient of mine who was missing his upper right posterior teeth.  A lateral window sinus augmentation was completed in order to gain adequate bone height and width.  This procedure was critical to obtain the appropriate amount of bone for proper dental implant placement.  After approximately 4 to 6 months of healing, 2 Straumann tissue level screw type implants were placed.  The patient was referred to Dr. Matt Cole for a implant supported bridge.  The patient was very pleased with the esthetic and functional outcome.
